Wheat...West coast cash wheat prices were under pressure from weaker
futures markets in early-week trade, with white wheat bids moving below
the $6.40 mark against seasonal harvest pressure. Modest carries of 12
to 18 cents from August to January were also being posted across all the
wheat markets to deflect nearby movement.
Crop Progress...The Pacific Northwest winter wheat harvest continues
to advance, with another 20% of the crop being cut over the past week.
Idaho reports 55% complete, Oregon is at 85% and Washington at 67%; all
well ahead of the five-year average pace.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a slightly better pace
of wheat movement off U.S. ports last week, coming in at 15.5 million
bushels to put year-to-date shipments at 122 million bushels, which is
25% behind a year ago. White wheat was once again the top mover with
4.7 million bushels, followed by hard red spring with 4.4 million and
hard red winter with 3.2 million. West coast exporters moved nearly 10
million bushels of wheat, mostly to Japan and the Philippines, along
with 15.3 million bushels of corn.
