Wheat...The retreat across the wheat futures complex weighed on west
coast cash bids, with prices down 25 to 35 cents. White wheat basis to
Chicago did strengthen about 20 cents through the week, offsetting some
of the 40 cent decline in Chicago. White wheat continues to register a
steady stream of export demand, being the only class of wheat that shows
commitments running ahead of a year ago.
Weekly Sales...USDA reported export demand for U.S. wheat came in at
11.5 million bushels, slightly below the four-week average, to put the
year-to-date commitment total at 315 million bushels. This stands 31%
below a year ago and 13% below the five-year average pace. Soft white
wheat was once again the top seller with 5.9 million bushels and with
96 million in commitments, sets 15% ahead of a year ago and 28% above
average. Hard red spring booked 3.9 million bushels and with 93 million
in commitments, sets 17% below a year ago and 12% below average. Hard
red winter recorded 1.4 million bushels and with 70 million in sales,
sets 63% below a year ago and 38% below average.
Top Buyers...Mexico bought 2.9 million bushels of wheat, followed
by the Philippines with 2.1 million, Egypt with 1.3 million, Indonesia
with 1.1 million and Ecuador with 1.1 million bushels.
