Wheat...The 30-cent retreat in wheat futures from recent highs weighed
on west coast cash wheat prices in early-week trade. White wheat bids saw
bids slip a nickel from a recent high of $6.75, with basis at even-money
to Chicago futures. Early harvest reports show average to slightly above
average yields for white wheat, with "good" quality.
Crop Progress...Intermittent rain showers slowed the pace of winter
wheat harvest across the Pacific Northwest last week, but overall progress
remains slightly ahead of average. Idaho reports 10% harvested, Oregon is
at 28% and Washington at 15% complete. Cooler weather and precipitation
added 8% to the good to excellent rating for spring wheat in Washington,
while Idaho dropped 7% from that category to 58%.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed exporter emphasis was on
row crop movement last week, reporting only 7.8 million bushels in total
wheat shipments. Year-to-date wheat shipments of 78 million bushels are
running nearly 30% behind a year ago. West coast exporters shipped less
than a million bushels of wheat, mostly to Chile, but reported total corn
shipments of 23.5 million bushels.
